Kate and Kameron made two separate presentations, “Legal Issues for Trustees,” and “Navigating the Legal World of Community Colleges,” an update on the hottest legal issues facing community colleges.
Melanie co-presented with Anita Kiehne, Vice President of Claims, Missouri United School Insurance Council and Arthur J. Gallagher in St. Louis, on “Sexual Assault on Campus: Student Safety Best Practices and Emerging Issues.”
Kate also presented an update regarding recent actions by the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights to the MCCA College Student Affairs Officers.
Melanie Gurley Keeney, a founding Shareholder of Tueth, Keeney, Cooper, Mohan & Jackstadt, P.C. , practices in the areas of Employment, Immigration, and Education law. Her experience in education law includes representing numerous Missouri school districts and institutions of higher education regarding a wide range of personnel and student matters. Melanie also specializes in First Amendment issues, ranging from free speech to religion in the schools, and she regularly advises school districts on these issues. She is also a popular speaker on the local and national level. Melanie has extensive experience litigating both federal and state cases. Melanie is a past board member of the National School Board Association’s Council of School Attorneys and is past Chairman of the Missouri Council of School Attorneys.

Kate Nash is a shareholder at Tueth Keeney Cooper Mohan & Jackstadt, P.C. Kate specializes in Higher Education Law and regularly represents numerous private and public colleges, universities, and community colleges throughout Missouri on a wide range of legal issues, including employment matters, student claims, harassment and discrimination disputes, tenure litigation, first amendment issues, Title IX compliance and litigation, disability law, Title IV funding, and numerous other legal issues impacting the higher education community. Kate also acts as outside general counsel to numerous institutions, advising them on a myriad of day-to-day legal issues. Kate is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys and has been recognized by Superlawyers in the field of education law. Kate taught as an adjunct professor at St. Louis University School of Law for many years where she taught a course on the law of non-profits.
Kameron Murphy is a member of the firm’s Employment and Labor practice group and is a frequent presenter on employment law issues. He advises employers on labor relations, wage and hour issues, personnel policies, and in employee discipline and termination matters. He also represents Missouri and Illinois employers on labor law issues including union election campaigns, collective bargaining negotiations, grievance resolution and arbitration, and unfair labor practice proceedings. Prior to joining Tueth Keeney, Kameron practiced in commercial litigation for a well-respected mid-size St. Louis firm. He has extensive experience in all phases of litigation in Illinois and Missouri state and federal courts.
