Melanie Keeney practices in the areas of Employment, Immigration, and Education law. Melanie represents institutions of higher education, corporations and individuals in immigration law matters, including obtaining nonimmigrant and immigrant visas and handling employer sanctions issues, I-9 compliance, E-Verify issues, consular processing and naturalization. She frequently speaks on immigration, labor and education issues. Melanie has been listed in St. Louis Magazine’s ” St. Louis Best Lawyers” and ” The Best Lawyers in America,” from 1997-2008, and in ” Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers,” 2005-2008 editions as a top lawyer and one of the top 50 female lawyers in Missouri and Kansas and in Kansas City Magazine as one of the ” Top Missouri Lawyers.”
Ian Cooper, a founding Shareholder of the Firm of Tueth, Keeney, Cooper, Mohan & Jackstadt, P.C. Prior to founding the Firm, Ian was a partner at Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin in its St. Louis office. Before entering private practice, Ian served as Law Clerk to the Hon. James F. Warren of the Texas Court of Appeals, First Supreme Judicial District, in Houston, Texas from 1984-1985.
Ian practices in the areas of commercial, employment, higher education, environmental, and tort litigation. Ian has tried numerous jury and bench trials in federal and state courts in Missouri, Illinois, Texas and Arkansas. Ian has served as lead counsel in significant employment, tort and commercial cases, including class actions and other complex litigation.
Shane Jones practices in the areas of labor & employment law, education law, and litigation in both Missouri and Illinois. He routinely advises and represents employers in wage and hour matters, the design and review of employee handbooks, and disciplining and terminating employees. Shane has successfully defended employers against discrimination claims, First Amendment claims, Due Process claims, and other Labor and Employment actions in state and federal courts.
Shane also practices in the area of collective bargaining and labor relations. He is experienced in crafting proposals and counter-proposals, and in effectively presenting the employer’s position at the bargaining table. He has directly negotiated or participated extensively behind the scenes in the negotiation of more than fifty collective bargaining agreements under the National Labor Relations Act, the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Act, and in the “meet and confer” process under the Missouri Public Sector Labor Law.
Shane is a Vice-Chair of the Missouri Bar Labor & Employment Law Committee, an author of the “Prevailing Wage” chapter in the most recent Missouri Employee-Employer Law Desk Book, and a co-author of the “Employment Law” chapter in the most recent Missouri Bar School Law Desk Book as well as its most recent supplement. Shane has been a Tueth Keeney shareholder since January, 2003.
Margaret Hesse primarily practices in the areas of education law, employment law and litigation. She has represented school districts in employment matters, including Title VII, the Safe Schools Act, Title IX, and the Equal Pay Act. She has represented employers in labor matters before the United States Department of Labor/Wage and Hour Division and the Illinois Commission of Human Rights.
Martha Mendez Fischer practices exclusively in the areas of immigration and nationality law. Martha has extensive experience in employment-based and family-based immigration cases. Martha’s experience includes representing large multinational corporations, emerging growth companies, and individuals in immigration law matters, handling all aspects of nonimmigrant and immigrant visa processing, including consular processing. Prior to joining Tueth, Keeney, Cooper, Mohan & Jackstadt, P.C., Martha practiced immigration law as the Outreach Coordinator/ Staff Attorney for the American Friends Service Committee Central America Asylum Project in Miami, Florida, where her practice focused on family-based visas, asylum, temporary protected status, citizenship and litigation before the Immigration Courts and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
Ernie Trakas has practiced law for more than twenty years concentrating in the areas of special education and disability law, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Americans with Disabilities Act, and constitutional issues relating thereto. Ernie has extensive experience handling special education due process hearings, and federal court trials and appeals on special education and disability matters.
Kate Nash practices primarily in the areas of education, litigation, labor and employment law. Kate has extensive experience representing private and public employers in all areas of employment law. She has experience advising employers as to all matters of human resource policy issues, specifically ensuring that employers are in compliance with state and federal labor and employment laws. She practices primarily in Missouri and Illinois state and federal courts. She has also represented clients in matters before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Missouri Human Rights Commission and the Illinois Department of Human Rights.
Amy Clendennen practices primarily in the areas of education, litigation, labor and employment law. Amy has extensive experience advising employers on human relations and labor policies. She has litigated claims in state and federal courts in Missouri, Illinois, California, and New York. Amy has also represented clients in administrative proceedings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the National Labor Relations Board, the Missouri Human Rights Commission and the Illinois Department of Human Rights.
