Firm shareholder, Melanie Keeney, recently took time to speak with a group of St. Louis area assistant principals regarding several important facets of school law in Missouri.
The Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP) invited Melanie to speak regarding “School Law: Teacher Termination, Student Discipline & Emerging Issues” on January 27, 2010. The presentation was specifically addressed to assistant principals in the public school setting in Missouri. The Missouri Association of Secondary Principals is an organization whose mission is to improve secondary education through positive leadership and the enhancement of student performance.
Melanie Keeney practices in the areas of K-12 education, higher education, labor and employment, and immigration law. Her experience in education law includes representing numerous Missouri school districts and institutions of higher education regarding a wide range of personnel and student matters. Melanie also specializes in First Amendment issues, ranging from free speech to religion in the schools, and she regularly advises school districts on these issues. She also serves as an invited speaker in the local and national level. Melanie has extensive experience litigating both federal and state cases. Melanie is a past board member of the National School Board Association’s Council of School Attorneys and is past Chairman of the Missouri Council of School Attorneys. She has been listed in St. Louis Magazine’s “St. Louis Best Lawyers” and “The Best Lawyers in America,” from 1997-2008, and in “Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers,” 2005-2009 editions as a top lawyer and one of the top 50 female lawyers in Missouri and Kansas, and in Kansas City Magazine as one of the “Top Missouri Lawyers.”
