On January 28, 2010, Melanie Keeney, Tueth Keeney shareholder, participated as a panelist at a session of the Missouri United School Insurance Council (“MUSIC”)’s annual membership meeting titled “Ask the Experts.” Melanie, along with the other panelists, all education defense attorneys, were “put on the spot” to answer a variety of questions from the members.
The Missouri United School Insurance Council (MUSIC) serves approximately 87% of the school districts in Missouri. The MUSIC annual membership meeting was held at the Lodge of Four Seasons in Lake Ozark, Missouri over a two day period, and included a number of risk management activities for members.
Melanie Keeney practices in the areas of K-12 education, higher education, labor and employment, and immigration law. Her experience in education law includes representing numerous Missouri school districts and institutions of higher education regarding a wide range of personnel and student matters. Melanie also specializes in First Amendment issues, ranging from free speech to religion in the schools, and she regularly advises school districts on these issues. Melanie has extensive experience litigating both federal and state cases. She also serves as an invited speaker in the local and national level. Melanie is a past board member of the National School Board Association’s Council of School Attorneys and is past Chairman of the Missouri Council of School Attorneys. She has been listed in St. Louis Magazine’s “St. Louis Best Lawyers” and “The Best Lawyers in America,” from 1997-2008, and in “Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers,” 2005-2009 editions as a top lawyer and one of the top 50 female lawyers in Missouri and Kansas, and in Kansas City Magazine as one of the “Top Missouri Lawyers.”
