Elizabeth J. Mooney

Elizabeth J. Mooney practices primarily in the areas of higher education, education, non-profit, litigation, labor and employment law. With over twenty-five years of experience in both private practice and in-house settings, Betsey represents colleges, universities, public school districts, private corporations, municipalities, and non-profit organizations with respect to variety of matters, including Title IX, Title VII, the ADA, the ADEA, the FMLA, and other state and federal laws.

As the former Associate General Counsel for a large elite private university, Betsey has extensive experience advising higher education clients on a host of student affairs legal issues, including Title IX compliance and investigations, the creation and revision of University policies and handbooks, campus disciplinary actions, the Jean Clery Act, student mental health concerns, and immigration matters.

Betsey regularly conducts independent investigations for both educational institutions and private employers regarding an array of matters such as Title IX, harassment and discrimination, student and employee misconduct, and faculty ethics. She also advises senior management on a wide range of employment issues, including hiring practices, employment discrimination, reductions in force, FMLA, ADA, policy and procedure development, employee discipline, sexual harassment, terminations, immigration, and employee relations.

Throughout her career, Betsey has represented clients in proceedings before state and federal courts and administrative agencies, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the Missouri Commission on Human Rights (MCHR), and the United States Department of Education Office for Civil Rights (OCR).
