On January 17, 2008, Tom Tueth spoke to approximately 50 members of the Missouri Bar at a CLE program titled “Current Issues for Lawyers, Legislators and Lobbyists.” The half-day program was held in Jefferson City and covered topics such as Campaign Finance and Lobbying, Advising Political Subdivision on Conflicts of Interest and Other Issues, and Recent Changes to the Code of Professional Conduct for Lawyers. Mr. Tueth discussed two issues that have been in the news recently: whether emails of employees of state agencies and political subdivisions are public records under Missouri’s Sunshine Law and the extent to which public bodies have an obligation to retain employee emails. Mr. Tueth also spoke about the perennial problem of public bodies spending public funds in support of tax increase and bond issue campaigns. Mr. Tueth has extensive experience advising school districts, community colleges and other public bodies on avoiding legal problems. He is a regular presenter at Missouri Bar CLE programs.
